As hosting is one of the core services of C-CUBED IT Solutions, we decided to add a hosting section to our articles, mostly to educate the general public on some of the basics about email in general.
What is an email alias?
An email alias is a forwarding email address. The email alias you create forwards mail to any email address that you have specified. The email address you have specified can be on the same server or on a different server. It is important to note that the address you forward to must exist.
For instance, you have the following email addresses:
peter@domainname.comsales@domainname.com
You can forward emails that are going to peter@domainname.com to sales@domainname.com.
What is a catch-all email address?
A catch-all email address is an address to which any mail not destined for a specific account within the particular domain name will be delivered. Catch-all accounts are useful for receiving mail sent to an incorrect recipient email address.
Let’s assume you have the following email addresses on a particular domain:
projects@domainname.comsales@domainname.cominfo@domainname.com(catch-all)
Mail sent to projects@domainname.com and/or sales@domainname.com will be delivered. Mail sent to jobs@domainname.com will be filtered to the catch-all email account info@domainname.com instead.
What is webmail?
Webmail is usually an internet or intranet application, provided by most hosting companies like C-CUBED IT Solutions, to allow users and clients to access their email from a web browser when they are unable to do so from their email client.
For instance, if your emails are hosted with C-CUBED IT Solutions:
- Open your favourite browser and go to
webmail.domainname.com(using your domain name). - Enter your email address and password in the provided fields.
- You will be directed to the home page of your webmail application.
